Mary Stewart owned The Running Goat in Perth for many years and is well known for her spunky outlook on life. When Terry Stewart proposed a race around Perth with runners wearing kilts, Mary jumped on board as a lead organizer and the Perth Kilt Run was born. Now in its eighth year, this annual event draws thousands of visitors to the area and has helped Perth become an “expect the unexpected” tourist destination. Being involved with the Kilt Run has whetted Mary’s appetite for event planning, to the extent that she closed her store in 2016 and started The 2 Marys Inc. with her friend, the “other Mary”.
Mary Rothfels is a 20 year veteran of national conservation planning for the Government of Canada. While establishing programs for migratory birds, species at risk, boreal caribou and marine protection, she developed skills in collaboration, project management and marketing/promotion. Upon moving to Perth in 2014 she became involved with the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) and volunteered to organize the 2016 Heritage Perth & District Christmas House Tour. Still not ready to retire, Mary was keen to help establish The 2 Marys Inc. and carry on with organizing community events.
